Ruthie's Trunk Show

After posting my own trunk show, I realized that my mother -in -law's quilts deserved to be shared too! She is the reason why I started sewing and ended up having a passion for quilting.  Her work is beautiful.  Her quilts are enjoyed every day by the whole family.

The first quilt from Ruthie (Gramma) was made for my daughter, Katherine.  The bonnet girls are lovely, each with their own story.  I think they are timeless, and beautiful surrounded in red.

Ruthie's next quilt was gifted to me after it was shown at her guild.  She named it Hydrangeas for Jen, as Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine.  The piecing on this quilt is amazing!  I believe she had most of her quilts sent out to a long arm quilter for finishing.  I treasure this quilt.

Up next is a quilt I was lucky enough to finish.  The top was pieced by Ruthie.  I love the blueberry fabric.  This one has been cuddled with quite a bit and has held up to a lot of washing!

Lastly, I'd like to share my son's log cabin quilt.  This one hangs out on our couch and gets used daily.  It's quilted in a Christmas tree pattern which I think, is the perfect compliment to the quilt.

Ruthie passed in 2005 at a young age after a years battle with glioblastoma.  She was a wife, a mom of ten children, a sister to seven and a friend to so many.  She is missed greatly.  I know if she were here, she'd love to be part of this online quilting community.  I am thankful for her gift of the love of quilting.

What inspired all of you to become quilters?

Thank you for visiting!  I'll be posting along with all of you at Crazy Mom Quilts and also with Whims and Fancies Trunk Show!

Healed hearts and broken bones

I can't believe it's August already.  I've been able to do a good amount of sewing this summer for which I am so thankful.  I've discovered @latenightquilter on instagram.  She has so inspired me to take my quilts out on field trips to do some more creative photo shoots.   I ordered the Quilters Planner 2017 and cannot wait to receive it!

Here is my latest quilt featuring the Sun, Sand and Surf panel from Timeless Treasures.  It measures about 50x50 and is listed in my etsy shop!

Here are a few of my favorite people.... my niece and nephew and my daughter, Elizabeth in the middle.  If you get a chance and are on the Cape, go to Sesuit Harbor in Dennis for breakfast!  It makes for the perfect start to any day!

Here is my other daughter, Katherine.  She's amazing.  In May she underwent two open heart surgeries and is doing so great!  So much to take on at 14 years old, but time has healed her heart in so many ways.

And here is the broken bone part of my post....
Broken Herringbone pattern by Violet Craft that I purchased at Hawthorne Threads.

I can't tell you the fear I had cutting this apart to create this quilt top.... but somehow, magically, it all came together.
This one's for my two girls when I finish quilting and binding it.

And lastly, just wanted to share this pretty selvage as a reminder to say yes to new experiences more and not miss out on anything that comes your way in life.

Thanks for stopping by Pretty in the Port!
Linking up with NTT for this week.

Friday Finish For Mum!

This one took quite a while to finish, but so worth it!

This is Bonnie and Camille's Round and Round pattern that I've used before and just love working on the large blocks.

Fabric is Day Sail from Camille Roskelley........... perfect for a summer quilt!

The back was what took me the longest.  I debated on whether to track down more yardage of Day Sail or to piece the back with what I had left.  I found the little sail boat blocks on pinterest....

I also added more friendship blocks for another border to break up the solid blue.

I recently read a blogger's post that talked about having trouble photographing finished quilts...
My Liam is not concerned... and maybe a bit bored?

This quilt is a gift for the family's Cape House!  Just in time for the 4th of July vacation week!

Linking up with Crazy Mom and NTT....
Thanks for stopping by and an early Happy 4th to all!

Summer fireflies

This Friday finish is a baby quilt featuring Sarah Jane's fabric from her line, Wee Wander.

This quilt is inspired by the free pattern from Freshly Handmade.

I recently purchased some new labels from JJ Labels!
Love how they turned out.  You can customize your own labels on her website.  I did try using the website, Spoonflower to create labels, but found their editing tools difficult to use.  Has anyone else experienced this?

As for a Friday start, I've recently joined the Summer Sampler 2016 quilt along!  You can join any time here at Freshly Pieced.
You receive one pdf per week featuring a block from 10 different designers and 7 bloggers.  You can join anytime!
Here are my first two blocks...

Funny how you pick up on mistakes after you take a pic?
Anyone notice this in the block above?
I'm using left over fabric from Miss Kate and Day Sail.
Have a great weekend!

Burst of energy!

I finally finished this baby quilt inspired by a free Wee Wander pattern which also uses some of Sarah Jane's fabric.  I've used her Sommer collection and love it!
Perfect for a little girls' room...

This is another Out To Sea finish using Sarah Jane's cute fabric again and pairing it with white minky for the back.  I've quilted this on my Bernina using the serpentine stitch, #4.

Last, but not least, is the double slice quilt using a layer cake from Kate Spain's Canyon fabric collection.  I love this fabric, so bright and cheery to start off the spring season with!  I've posted this in my etsy shop, but might change my mind.... I've grown attached to this one:)

Feels great to get a lot of sewing done... all inspired by the longer, sunny days here in New England.
I'll be linking up with My Quilt Infatuation and Crazy Mom Quilts this week.

Thank you for visiting!
