Daysail Quilt!

I made this quilt using Camille Roskelley's Firework pattern and her fabric collection, DaySail.

This quilt involved a LOT of piecing for me.  The blocks were not difficult, but time consuming.  Most of my time was actually spent pressing the seams open to reduce that bulkiness for quilting.  I so wanted to love this quilt.  But in the end, I think I should have stuck with a more simple fabric selection.  The Daysail fabric is gorgeous, but all together, I think it seems too busy for this particular quilt pattern.  It's definitely the red that stands out to me as the trouble squares.

Have any of you later regretted piecing a quilt using too many fabrics from one collection? or maybe wished you had used solids instead?

  1. I love the colors in this collection and often wondered how the fabrics would look together in a quilt. Now I know that there is a LOT of blue! I would have added some red solid to it and maybe mixed up the fabrics in each block, but I really like bold primary colors. I would like to see a better picture of the entire quilt top, because I think it's pretty and soft. The red in the blocks stands out to me in a good way, almost like a color wash across the quilt. I hope it grows on you as it's growing on me! Congrats on a finished top, too!

    1. Thanks for your comments. This is a gift for someone which for me, adds a bit of "pressure" to the process. I'm thankful for bloggers that offer their advice. Learning more each day.

  2. the quilt turned out lovely. The blocks are great but I see your dilemnia. I think I would like to have a bit more red in the quilt but I am not sure where you would put it. Give it some time and see if you start to like it better. If not, maybe replace one block with one that has a red print. just my 2cents. micki@2dogsstudio.us

  3. I really love how this quilt turned out! I love this pattern to start out with and I think the blues all together look lovely. i think that reds are always so tricky because your eye is drawn to them so quickly and they just POP! I like the way they look in your quilt though! Beautiful job!

  4. Wow. My last comment didn't work, so I'm trying again. I traded up my machine because of throat space. I'm sorry to answer your comment here but you have no e-mail on your profile. I love my Elna. It's quiet and has lots of room

  5. Your Firework quilt is quite lovely! Love the pattern and the fabric. You did a great job on all those blocks. I made a quilt similar that were large blocks using a collection of fabrics too. I was pleased with the results. Thank you for stopping by my blog leaving a comment on my Red Work Winter Twitterings quilt.
